The time has come. After numerous rumors, OnePlus let the cat out of the bag in today's keynote. The OnePlus 5 is thus the new top smartphone on the market. We have summarized all information.

After a few weeks full of rumors, it's now official: the OnePlus 5 is here. And as always surprised. As always, the keynote was kept very simple and without exaggerated effects. We already have all the specs for you in advance.

OnePlus 5 with Snapdragon 835

The OnePlus 5 has a 5,5-inch display with a full HD resolution (1920x1080 pixels). This should be able to automatically regulate the color temperature using an ambient sensor. Inside is a Snapdragon 835 processor. This is supported by 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM. The internal memory is 64 or 128GB and cannot be expanded. According to OnePlus, the new flagship should be up to 3 percent more powerful than the OnePlus 25T. The RAM should be 20 percent more efficient than its predecessor. The new, faster UFS 2.1 storage technology is also used.

Dual camera with bokeh effect

As is already known, the OnePlus 5 comes with a dual camera. The two lenses each have a resolution of 20 megapixels. The front camera for selfies has a resolution of 16 megapixels. Like the iPhone 7, this has a bokeh effect and thus better emphasizes the foreground from the background. In addition, the software has a special portrait mode for perfect selfies. According to OnePlus, the camera software should automatically learn over time in order to take better and better photos over time.

The battery is 3300mAh and can be charged to 30 percent in 60 minutes using Dash Charge. It takes about an hour to fully charge. The processor is particularly energy-efficient and, according to OnePlus, therefore does not require a larger battery. In addition, the design of the smartphone is to be kept extra thin. The fingerprint sensor is to unlock the smartphone within 0,2 seconds and is still located at the front under the display. The usual soft buttons next to the fingerprint sensor are still there.

In addition, OnePlus 5 is one of the first smartphones with Bluetooth 5.0 to hit the market. With this it is possible to supply several Bluetooth devices with music at the same time. Further ranges are also possible. A dual SIM as with the predecessors is of course still possible. The OnePlus 5 currently runs OxygenOS 4.5.0 with Android 7.1.1. The Google or Pixel Launcher is used as the surface.

OnePlus 5: price & availability

The OnePlus 5 will be available in two versions from next month. The version with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage will cost 499 euros. If you want even more, you have to add 559 euros for the version with 8GB RAM / 128GB. Both versions should be available in the colors Slate Gray and Midnight Black from the end of June 2017. Shipping is slated to start on June 21 for pre-orders - and on June 27 for the rest of the time. The rush will be big as always - how OnePlus will deal with it remains to be seen.

I've been a OnePlus fan for years. But I notice that over time the motto “good hardware for half the price” has been lost. In addition, a 500mah battery is too small for 3300 euros. No infinity display either. Old-fashioned these display bezels.
Stick with my Oneplus 3 and Honor or Huawei's middle class are my good alternatives for the next few years.
