Apple M1: This is how you can also install iPhone and iPad apps
There is a practical advantage with the Apple M1. Thanks to it, iPhone and iPad apps can also be installed. How to do that, I'll show you today.
Let's remind ourselves again why the Apple M1 is so exciting. This was first introduced last year and is based on ARM. This is the same architecture that smartphone and tablet processors use. I don't want to go into detail here about how it all works. But the fact is that it runs a lot faster than previous Intel chips and the battery life is much better.
And it also allows the installation of apps for iOS and iPadOS, since the A processing units in these devices are also ARM chips and the apps do not have to be recompiled. Let's take a closer look at that.
Apple M1: Install mobile apps - this is how it works
I have to clarify one thing at this point. It is not possible to download any app on your Mac. It is reserved for developers to deactivate this for their own apps. Therefore, for example, Facebook, Instagram and Co. are not represented by Mac.
Now let's start by making sure you have a compatible Mac. To do this, open “About this Mac” in the menu behind the Apple logo and check that “Apple M1” is listed for the chip. Then go to the App Store and look for an app that you would like to download. The familiar view for search results then opens. In the upper area of the window there are now two additional tabs. Once "Mac apps" and once "iPhone & iPad apps". Now click on the latter option. Now you can see all the available results.
The note "Not checked for macOS" is also important. This means that Apple did not make sure that the XY app is actually running on the computer. So you have to dare this experiment yourself.
Summary
- Check to see if your Mac supports this feature.
- Go to the App Store on the Mac.
- Search for a desired app and display the results.
- Switch to the "iPhone & iPad Apps" tab.
- Load the desired app.
