The Chinese technology company Xiaomi is mainly known in this country for its smartphones. But Xiaomi actually sells everything: from vacuum cleaners to desk lamps and bicycle pumps. This year, an electric car was also introduced, which has so far made both positive and negative headlines. Now Xiaomi has driven the top version, the SU7 Ultra, around the Nürburgring.

record time by a long way

Xiaomi has now achieved an impressive lap time on the legendary race track in the Eifel. The prototype completed the circuit in exactly 6'46'874 minutes. For comparison: Tesla and Porsche did not manage to complete their high-performance test drives on the ring in less than 7 minutes. In this comparison, however, Porsche with the Taycan and Tesla with the Model S are almost underpowered: Xiaomi's SU7 Ultra delivers a gigantic 1500 hp - Tesla and Porsche "only" 1000 hp.

Who will build the cars of the future?

So are smartphone manufacturers from China now able to stand up to our German automobile companies in their own "living room"? Yes, they can. Xiaomi is not the first no-name brand in the automobile sector to achieve something impressive. Xpeng, Nio, BYD - the list of Chinese newcomers in the automobile world is getting longer and longer.

The timing to enter the car market couldn't be better: electromobility is bringing about a radical change that is pushing established car manufacturers back to the status of newcomers in many areas. A newly founded car company has no worse chances of developing good battery technology than, for example, a German car company, for which this world is also completely new territory. In addition, Xiaomi has significant advantages in the area of software, which is becoming increasingly important in vehicles.

Global sales planned

In view of the good sales figures in China, Xiaomi is also planning a global launch of the SU7. The top version, the SU7 Ultra, will be officially presented today. It is already known that a 150 kWh battery will be used, a new top brand in the electric car sector. The price of the SU7 Ultra will be just over €100.000.
