Apple devices manufactured in 2003 through 2015 could have power adapter plugs that could break and cause electric shock. That's why Apple started a recall campaign for power plugs that were used on Macs, iPhones, iPads and iPods. Affected devices can be identified using the serial number. From 2003 to 2015 Apple had iPhones, iPads, a travel adapter kit and much more. that have the two-prong power adapter plugs common in these regions.

According to its own statements, Apple has now determined that with some power supplies there is a risk that pens can break off in rare cases. Then there is a possibility of electric shock. "Customer security is extremely important to us at Apple. We have therefore decided to replace each affected power supply plug with a new, revised power supply plug free of charge.According to Apple's support website. However, devices purchased in the USA, Great Britain, China and Japan and the USB power adapter from Apple are not affected by this serial error. So far we have knowledge of twelve cases in which the mentioned ProThe group goes on to explain that problems have arisen. Of the ProUSB power adapters and all other power adapter plugs developed by Apple for use in China, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Japan, Canada and the USA are not affected.

How do I recognize the affected power supply plugs?

According to Apple, the power supply plugs can be recognized on the inside with four or five characters, rather cryptic characters, while new and unaffected plugs can be identified by the country code EUR, KOR, AUS, ARG or BRA. Apple also offers one Online exchange for which customers must enter the serial number of their device and their Apple ID on the support website in their country. There are no costs for the customer. You can find more information about the exchange on the Apple support website.

Apple's recall is one of a series of similar promotions from other manufacturers. Microsoft last had the power cords of some SurfacePro-Tablets recalledwhere there is a risk of overheating. In August, HP recalled six million laptop charging cable routes to replace possible fire hazards. In 2006 Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo and Fujitsu recalled millions of notebooks because of dangerous batteries.
