There are only about two months until Apple will present the Apple Watch Series 8. This should come with a fever detection for the first time, which, however, should not provide any precise measurements.

As part of mine Apple Watch Series 7 reviews Unfortunately, I had to realize that Apple didn't add any new fitness features compared to the previous model. I didn't complain about that at the time, however, because the existing range of functions is already very large. However, I also noted that I hope to see innovations around health monitoring in the Apple Watch Series 8.

It seems my wish may be granted. Apple is likely to plan to include fever detection in the next generation of its smartwatch. In the following, we will explain exactly what this should look like.

Apple Watch Series 8 with fever detection: No exact values, just for guidance

A new temperature sensor is to be used in the Series 8 to detect a fever. As you might expect, this should not provide the exact body temperature, but only be able to recognize noticeable changes. The watch could then send the user a notification advising them to use a thermometer or see a doctor.

The Apple Watch Series 8 will likely launch alongside the iPhone 14 lineup in September. If the sensor survives the internal test phase, it should be installed in this model and the suspected variant for extreme athletes. It is most likely not intended for the second-generation Apple Watch SE.
