The smartphone market is gradually getting really exciting again, because as early as next week we will be seeing a new high-end smartphone from OnePlus and only a few days later Samsung will be presenting its new foldables. However, ASUS is ahead of everyone, because the manufacturer already presented a compact smartphone with the new ASUS Zenfone 9.

Despite the compact size, the technical data is impressive across the board and we are very excited to see how it will perform review. Unfortunately, the prices have increased significantly compared to the predecessor.

Technical data

The biggest feature can be found on the front. The display measures "only" 5,9 inches, which is actually quite small by today's standards. This allows a very compact housing size to be achieved, which is very rarely seen these days. To be fair, however, it must also be clearly mentioned that the ASUS Zenfone 9 does not have the thinnest display edges and it could therefore have been even more compact. The screen has a pleasantly sharp FHD+ resolution and supports a smooth refresh rate of 120 Hertz, which means 120 individual images pro can be played back in a second, making all animations and scrolling appear buttery smooth. The panel is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus to withstand bumps and scratches.

Under the hood is Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which is said to be significantly more efficient than the regular 8 Gen 1. Depending on the version, there is also 8 or 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal UFS 3.1 storage, which unfortunately cannot be expanded using a microSD card. The battery has a capacity of 4.300 mAh and can be recharged with the included 30 watt power supply. Unfortunately, wireless charging is not possible, but at least there is a 3,5 mm jack and stereo speakers are of course also on board.

On the back there is space for two cameras on the top left, which are individually embedded in the housing and arranged one below the other. From a purely visual point of view, ASUS has probably gotten a little bit dated here Huawei P50 Pro get inspired. The main camera is the well-known IMX766 sensor, which takes photos with up to 50 megapixels. Above all, the manufacturer wants to have significantly improved the stabilization. There is also a 12 megapixel ultra wide-angle camera and a 12 megapixel sensor is also responsible for selfies.

ASUS Zenfone 9 Colors, Pricing & Availability

When it comes to colors, customers have four beautiful colors to choose from: "Moonlight White", "Starry Blue", "Sunset Red" and "Midnight Black", all of which are available in the small memory variant with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB. Unfortunately, the variant with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB of internal memory is only available in black and white, and those who need 16 GB RAM have to be satisfied with black.

Customers have to pay 799 euros for the smallest memory version and 50 euros more for double the memory. The Zenfone 9 with 16 GB RAM is available for 899 euros. Until the end of August, selected partners and the ASUS Online Shop are running an early bird campaign, in which the Chromebook (CX1) with a RRP of 379 euros can be purchased free of charge.

All models can be pre-ordered now and will be available from August 12th.
