With the new BlackBerry KeyOne, the manufacturer finally wants to gain a foothold in the smartphone market. Hardly anyone has been interested in BlackBerry since the smartphone existed. This shall be changed now.

In September, BlackBerry has the Development of new devices handed over to the Chinese company TCL. However, BlackBerry continues to take care of the software for the devices. Alcatel also lets their devices through TCL proinduce. The group has already built the two BlackBerrys DTEK 50 and DTEK 60. These used to run with the in-house BlackBerry OS, but now Google's Android can be found on the devices.

Technical details

The new BlackBerry KeyOne has a 4,5-inch display with a resolution of 1620 x 1080 pixels. Under the hood is the energy-saving Snapdragon 625 with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. In order to be able to quickly recharge the 3505mAh battery, the KeyOne uses fast charging technology. The camera uses a Sony “IMX378” sensor and takes photos with twelve megapixels. The front camera shoots beautiful selfies with eight megapixels.

For the software, BlackBerry uses Android 7.1 Nougat - pretty exemplary. The user interface was only slightly changed by BlackBerry, the rest consists of "pure" Android. The apps "BlackBerry Messenger" and "BlackBerry Hub" are preinstalled. The latter manages your mailboxes and messengers in one app.

Practical features on board

In addition to Android, the BlackBerry has practical features on board that only work with the keyboard. For example, user-defined shortcuts can be defined. It is possible to start Twitter by pressing the "T" on the keyboard. The camera can be started by pressing “K”, for example. In order to keep up with current smartphones, the Blackberry KeyOne also has a fingerprint sensor. This should scan the user's imprint fairly quickly and unlock the cell phone.

Price and release

BlackBerry charges an impressive 599 euros for the average smartphone with keyboard. Compared to other smartphones in this price range, this price is set too high for this equipment. It should be available from us from April.
