The Chinese company BYD is starting with three electric cars in Europe, including in Austria. Yesterday, the manufacturer officially entered the three models ATTO 3, HAN and TANG for Austria at an event in the Shopping City Süd. We were there and also had the chance to win one Prodrive.

In Austria, sales are handled by CCI Car Austria GmbH, a subsidiary of the DENZEL Group. For this purpose, the new BYD Pioneer Store was opened in December 2022 in the Shopping City Süd (SCS) in Vösendorf. A showroom for all currently available models awaits visitors directly at entrance 10 - Proown, offprobeer and viewing included. On top of that Procan be driven on with the ATTO 3, a compact SUV, fully electrified. From February, the sporty HAN limousine and the TANG SUV will also be included review drive portfolio.

Focus on sales partners throughout Austria and fast delivery times

Danijel Dzihic, Managing Director BYD Austria, explains that he will be in contract with 2023 dealers in Austria until the end of March 15. By the end of the year, they want to cover the whole of Austria in all federal states with sales and workshop partners and get even closer to the customer. More than 120 dealers have already applied across Austria.

Furthermore, the company is the only manufacturer in the world that produces all 4 key components of an electric car itself: battery, electric motor, control unit and semiconductor. The software also comes directly from the headquarters in Shenzhen, China. Through this ProBYD wants to guarantee short delivery times in the production chain almost entirely in-house – also in the future. That's the ATTO 3 promt available, the delivery time for HAN and TANG is around six months, according to Dzihic.

Blade Battery: Particularly environmentally friendly & little loss of range

The battery type used in all models is the in-house “Blade Battery”, which is said to be particularly environmentally friendly. According to the manufacturer, it contains neither cobalt nor nickel - and the lithium content is also lower than in competing models. In addition, it should continue to perform well even at low temperatures: In a range test by NAF in Sweden, the BYD Tang should only be 11 Procents in range, the best value in this test.

BYD ATTO 3: The compact SUV for the masses

On site we learn that the BYD ATTO 3 should be the model with which the manufacturer wants to reach the masses. It is therefore not surprising that this has already become one Prowas available. We from TechnikNews of course took the chance to cruise around Vösendorf.

Technical details of the ATTO 3

But first to the data sheet, since the ATTO 3 will probably not be so well known to most people. Basically, this is a fully electric compact SUV measuring 4,455 meters in length, 2,05 meters (width including mirrors) and a height of 1,615 meters. Without passengers and luggage on board, the ATTO 3 weighs 1,75 tons, with the maximum permissible total weight being 2,16 tons.

The charging capacity of the battery is 60,48 kWh, weighs 420 kilograms and should offer a range of 420 kilometers (WLTP / combined). The loading time from 0 to 100 Procent should take about 7h 9min for a single-phase 40 kW, and 11h 6min for a three-phase 30 kW at the wallbox. With the fastest charging option of the ATTO 3, namely direct current with 88 kW, the full charge should be completed in 1h 20min.

It drives the vehicle's front-wheel drive with an output of 150 kW (204 hp). The top speed is 160 km/h and the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 7,3 seconds.

ATTO 3 in the first impression & Prodrives

The inner space clearly stands out from the usual car manufacturers. BYD probet with the approximately rotatable Display in the middle, the guitar strings on the door and the speedometer directly on the steering wheel. At first glance, everything looks very valuable Driving assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control and steering assistant functioned reliably. The traffic sign recognition was also convincing. The steering assistant has its function from 125 kilometers pro hour disabled. Unfortunately, there is no head-up display, and the automatic brightness adjustment of the surfaces still works a bit sluggishly.

The colleagues from Futurezone have published a YouTube video on the rotating display:

That was also particularly impressive ships, which could, for example, display the signage for exits in a detailed view. We haven't been able to find out where the map material came from - but it doesn't seem to be according to Google Maps. We will clarify such things at the latest in our detailed test report and we will submit them later. When planning the route, however, it is still negative that no charging stations and charge level were taken into account.

Also needs the Software their finishing touches. At our Prothe UI was only available in English and sometimes poorly translated. With an OTA update, the manufacturer wants to deliver a German version shortly and continue to improve the software. If you don't feel like using the manufacturer's software, you can Smartphone connect via cable and use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

Go to the driving impression it can be said that the ATTO 3 in our first ProBefahrt came into the corners well, and the steering was pleasantly light. That Suspension is a bit hard for my personal taste, but as always it has to be judged subjectively. The accelerator pedal is accepted quickly and the electric motor leaves the vehicle acceleration flex his muscles.

All other things will do so in a future review here TechnikNews to read, as always illuminated in detail.

BYD HAN: The sporty sedan

The current top model in terms of speed in the BYD portfolio is the BYD HAN. The electric speedster is 4,995 meters long, 2,134 meters wide including mirrors and 1,495 meters high. In terms of curb weight, we are at 2,25 tons here, the maximum load is 2,66 tons.

The "BYD Blade Battery" is also located in the underbody - here with a capacity of 85,4 kWh. This should offer driving pleasure of up to 521 km (WLTP / combined), with an output of 380 kW (517 hp) and acceleration of 3,9 seconds to 100 km/h. The maximum speed here is 180 km/h. At 120 kW (DC) this should be from 30 to 80 Procent in 30 minutes.

Again, there is the package of assistance systems, such as Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Automatic Emergency Breaking (AEB), Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Change Assist (LCA) and Lane Centerin Control (LCC). The interior works in the first place Proown valuable, we could not do other things due to lack of opportunity for a test driveprobeer

The price of the BYD HAN starts at 70.800 euros (Executive package) or 74.400 euros in the Emerald Edition.

BYD TANG: The BYD flagship

With the BYD TANG, the Chinese are launching their flagship. It is not without reason that the only model variant here is called "Flagship", which is available at a price of 70.800 (incl. VAT). This also comes with all the assistants as with the ATTO 3 and HAN models. Differences are the quality of the equipment, the battery and dimensions.

The dimensions here are 4,87 meters (length) x 1,65 meters (width including mirror) x 1,725 meters (height). The curb weight of the flagship is 2,489 tons, the maximum permissible total weight is 3,06 tons. This is also reflected in the range: 400 kilometers (WLTP / combined) should be possible with a capacity of 86,4 kWh and an output of 380 kW (517 hp).

Due to the weight, acceleration also takes longer than that of the BYD HAN: 4,6 seconds instead of 3,9 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h. With direct current at 120 kW, from 30 to 30 minutes is also possible here in 80 minutes Procent loaded.

When it comes to the colors, customers can choose from "Silver sand black", "Mountain grey", "Snow white", "Stony blue" and "Emperor red".
