F1 2017 presented: Can the offshoot be even better?

F1 2016 really convinced me. I've never seen such a game with these details about the original routes. But Codemasters wants to know again what they can actually do and presented F1 in 2017. That should bring it with it.

At the end of July, Codemasters invited to the Mercedes - Benz Museum in Stuttgart. In the backdrop next to all the Mercedes vehicles, including racing cars, the offshoot of F1 2016 with the not very surprising title F1 2017 was presented. The gameplay and the driving behavior have only been changed slightly, as there are some new and improved features instead.

Career mode - still the centerpiece

The career mode should not have changed at all, as it has been very popular in recent years and has never been criticized. You can still create a completely new driver who will develop over the course of ten consecutive years. The latter includes, among other things, the possibility of changing the racing team. So just like in real Formula 1.

Improvements to your own vehicle

A fraction of this feature already existed last year. This year a kind of role play element was built in. This means that you are in the role of a mechanic from a racing team and can commit yourself to an area of development for your own car. Should mean that you have to improve the strengths of a vehicle and correct errors.

There is also the possibility that things on the car will be improved too much, which means that they will then have to be recalibrated so that the vehicle drives optimally again. Other errors can also occur during development. Both of the last mentioned things can also be easily undone. In my opinion, a very interesting and, above all, real extension that fits perfectly into the picture of the game.

driving experience

First of all: The driving experience itself is still at the same high level as last year and is still very natural. With the 2017 season, new standard values for car weight and tire width were also introduced in Formula 1, i.e. more weight and wider tyres. This promises the following on the track: more natural inertia and more grip in the corners. Of course, Codemasters didn't miss this either and incorporated the consequences of the new regulation into their gameprogrammed. According to the first testers who were invited to Stuttgart, there are noticeable differences compared to the predecessor with regard to these improvements.

Courses

As for the routes, most of them have been carried over from the predecessor. By the way, Codemasters has re-measured the Japanese route Suzuka due to its great popularity, according to its own information. This should now enable a better driving experience.

Integration of historic Formula 1 vehicles

This is one of the innovations that I'm really looking forward to, how it actually will be. In F1 2017, historic vehicles from the 80s, 90s and 2000s were actually introduced. The driving behavior is said to have been adapted to the conditions at the time, which were not very good at that time. This means that these cars are not as easy to drive as the current ones, which in the same breath means that the level of difficulty with these vehicles should be a little higher. With a type of chrono event, you can even enter career mode with these vehicles.

Conclusion

On August 25, 2017, F1 2017 will be available for PC, Xbox and PS4, as well as on Steam. A date to look forward to from my point of view. Things like the integration of historic Formula 1 cars are a real specialty that you can only enjoy in this game because it doesn't exist anywhere else. Unfortunately not a word has been said about the mobile version of F1 2017. Too bad.
