Fast Share: Google is working on a sharing tool
Apple's AirDrop is pretty popular for sharing things. Google wants to compete on this and is apparently working on Fast Share.
With Android 4.4, Google already introduced a sharing tool called Android Beam. However, this never became as popular as AirDrop on iOS, iPadOS and macOS is. The service also used NFC, which is hardly as intuitive as AirDrop. Now it seems that Google finally wants to compete with Apple here, because 9to5Google was able to activate the not yet presented Fast Share on Android today.
Fast Share: Share without the Internet
Fast Share can be accessed in two different ways. Either via the menu for sending or the Google entry in the system settings of the smartphone. The service, which has not yet been published, will then be able to send images, URLs, text snippets and other files to Android smartphones and Chromebooks in the vicinity - without an Internet connection. Instead, they rely on Bluetooth and GPS. A small message appears in the recipient's notification center, which they have to accept. It is currently not clear when Google will distribute this feature.
