Fuchsia OS: These are the plans for Google's future Android successor

The name Fuchsia has been known as an operating system since 2016. It is being developed by Google and will one day also replace Android. Linux should no longer act as the basis, but a real-time system based on the new microkernel Zicron.

Fuchsia as an Android replacement

Google is currently working on two different operating systems. On the one hand Android for the smartphones, tablets and also televisions with AndroidTV, on the other hand ChromeOS for the Chromebooks. Fuchsia is supposed to exceed this limit and function equally on all devices. At the beginning, fuchsia will mainly be found on smart speakers; according to Google's engineers, this should happen within 3 years. After that, the operating system will be brought to larger devices such as laptops and Chromebooks bit by bit. The development team plans to completely replace Android within 5 years. The focus of the potential Android replacement is primarily on voice control and frequent security updates.

According to the developers, Fuchsia should also bring more data protection with it. There have already been disputes about this internally, as the marketing department speaks out against it. This makes sense when you consider that Google - like many other Internet companies - earns money with the data of the users. But not only that is hiring Proproblem. Chrome OS and Android need to get enough updates even after the release of Fuchsia. Because not every school or every company that uses devices based on it and has built up a certain ecosystem will want to switch directly.

Just one experiment so far

Most importantly, most of the information is speculation. There is still no uniform timetable from the top of the company. Fuchsia is an experimental development in which more than 100 employees are involved. A merger of Android and ChromeOS has so far been denied by the management level. Nevertheless, many developments speak for it and the developers themselves have already spoken of it, as Bloomberg reported.
