Google: No more tablets, focus on new laptops
With the Pixel Slate, Google finally presented its own tablet again. As it stands, however, it should be the company's last.
Computerworld got assured by a Google employee that the company will no longer work on its own tablets. This decision was made at a meeting last Wednesday. Instead, they want to concentrate more on the development of laptops with Chrome OS, such as the Pixelbook (this device division is not affected). That's a shame, because according to the source, the manufacturer was still working on two new tablets. Rick Osterloh has meanwhile also confirmed what I wrote at the beginning of this paragraph.
Hey, it's true ... Google's HARDWARE team will be solely focused on building laptops moving forward, but make no mistake, Android & Chrome OS teams are 100% committed for the long-run on working with our partners on tablets for all segments of the market (consumer, enterprise, edu)

Some articles have made this a bit unclear so wanted to clarify. And of course we will fully support Pixel Slate for the long-term as well.

Google: New Pixelbook is coming
So what is the next step in concrete terms? First of all, it should be made clear that you want to continue to support the Pixel Slate on the software side. This means that the convertible is very likely to receive software updates for a while. With regard to new hardware, the report mentions a second generation of the Pixelbook, which “possibly” will appear towards the end of the year - possibly with the Pixel 4? The roadmaps for other Google devices will definitely not be changed.
