The Chinese company Honor has officially presented a new foldable with the Honor Magic Vs. We will now tell you what the smartphone has to offer.

The good news first: The Honor Magic Vs should also find its way to Germany. The manufacturer already announced at the IFA that the next foldable will also be available globally. The Honor Magic Vs is currently only available in China. Personally, I would expect a Germany release around the MWC in the coming year.

Specifications of the Honor Magic Vs

When it comes to foldables, there are currently three different concepts. For one, we have the flip phone – like this, for example Samsung Galaxy ZFlip 4 or Motorola Razr and on the other hand the Fold concept. Here, the display can either be folded outwards, like on the Huawei Mate Xs 2, or inwards, like Samsung does with the Galaxy z fold 4, Oppo with the Find Women or Vivo with the recently introduced one X Fold + approach. Honor is now also using this concept with the Magic Vs. Here you have the advantage that the inner display is always well protected. This measures 7,9 inches in the Magic Vs and has a resolution of 2.272 x 1.984 pixels, resulting in a PPI of 382. Unfortunately, the screen does not offer 120 Hertz, but only uses a refresh rate of 90 Hertz.

Since such a large display is anything but practical in everyday life, Honor installs a second display. It measures 6,45 inches and has a resolution of 1.080p at a solid 431 PPI. 120 Hertz is used here, but what I personally like a lot more is that the aspect ratio of 21:9 is easy to use in everyday life and the Magic Vs is therefore not as long as a Galaxy Z Fold 4.

The Honor Magic Vs measures 160.3 x 141.5 x 6.1 millimeters when open and 160.3 x 72.6 x 12.9 millimeters when closed. It should therefore be very comfortable to hold, especially when closed, even if you should definitely notice the weight of 267 or 261 grams in the leather version.

A Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 works under the hood. It is still unclear whether we will ultimately see the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 in the global version. Personally, I don't assume so and would also count on the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 for us. This is of course nothing bad at first, because the 8+ Gen 1 naturally has enough power for the next few years and, thanks to the TSMC production, is also significantly more efficient than an 8 Gen1. Nevertheless, you can expect the currently best SoC from a smartphone with a four-digit RRP, and unfortunately that is not the case here.

Honor tries this "Compromiss" by the camera to compensate. On the back there is space for a triple camera setup in the top left. The main camera is the Sony IMX800, which has a resolution of 54 megapixels and is already the same in a mid-range smartphone Honor 70 is used. This is supported by a 50 megapixel ultra wide-angle camera and an 8 megapixel telephoto camera, which enables a 3x lossless zoom. For this, a real test must show how good the camera really is in everyday use. I'm very excited because Samsung has taken a big step forward with the Z Fold 4.

Unfortunately, the Honor Magic Vs does not support wireless charging, which I personally find a bit weak, especially for a high-end smartphone. The Magic Vs wants to be at the top, so I think it should use what's currently possible. After all, the 5.000 mAh battery should be charged very quickly thanks to 66 watt fast charge.

Price

Finally, there is the price. In China, the version with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage costs the equivalent of €1.022. You won't be able to offer the Magic Vs for this price in this country, but I think that the RRP should be less than €2.000. I'm very excited, because a possible success of the Honor Magic Vs stands and falls with the price.
