Tonight Apple presented new iPhones and Apple Watches. Finally, a start date for iOS 16 was mentioned. Everyone can download it from September 12th.

Apple introduced iOS 2022 at WWDC 16 in June. Over the summer, developers and volunteer testers had access to the betas, which allowed the former to customize their apps and various bugs in the operating system from Apple could still be eliminated. For about two and a half weeks they should Developments on the OS to be completed and now there is also a date when everyone can download the new iOS version.

From September 12th, the update will appear in the settings of the supported devices. The rollout will probably start again at 19 p.m., although you should definitely expect that the update will take a long time due to overloaded servers.

iOS 16: The most important innovations

The new lock screen in iOS 16 probably caused the most stir. Not only does it look brand new, it can also be adjusted down to the smallest detail. There are also now widgets, which are similar to the Complications on the Apple Watch, and Live Activities, which will only be released in the coming weeks. These can show the current status of a food delivery, for example.

iMessage also received new functions. For example, it is now possible to edit or delete messages afterwards. In Photos, Apple built a shared iCloud library, thanks to which it is even easier to share photos with people close to you. Also exciting are the passkeys, which should completely replace the classic logins with a password in the future.

Want an even more detailed look at what's changing in iOS 16? My colleague Jonas summed it up here together in detail.
