Jeff Bezos resigns as Amazon CEO, AWS boss succeeds
Amazon announced the resignation of Jeff Bezos as CEO in its latest quarterly report. Quite unexpectedly, the long-time boss has risen one rank, and Andy Jassy has already been chosen as his successor.
Like Amazon a few minutes ago announces, Jeff Bezos will step down as Chief Executive Officer in the third quarter of 2021. Bezos founded the company in 1994 as a small online book shop. Meanwhile, Amazon is much more than that. As an Executive Officer, however, he will continue to play an important role in the company. He is succeeded by Andy Jassy, who has headed the company's cloud division, Amazon Web Services (AWS), for years.
"Right now, I see Amazon at its most inventive stage, which is an optimal time for this transition," Jeff Bezos said of his retirement. In the fourth quarter, Amazon increased sales by around 40 Procent to over 125 billion US dollars. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Bezos is the second richest person in the world with a fortune of $188 billion.
