Apple yesterday quietly and secretly released new MacBook Pros presented. We have summarized all information for you.

After the first rumors about the release of a new MacBook Pros ran out at the end of 2022, Apple yesterday announced two new MacBooks via a press release Pros with 14 inch and 16 inch. Apple relies on rather minor improvements and refines their line up in small steps.

The chips

The stars of the show are clearly the new chips. M2 Pro and M2 Max they are called. Like the M1 Pro and M1 Max, they are again made in 5 nanometers. With this, Apple wants to enable the best possible combination of performance and efficiency.

M2 Pro

The M2 Pro there are again this year in 2 versions. It starts with a combination of 10-core CPU and 16-core GPU. Anyone who thinks that's not enough can go for the version with a 370-core CPU and 12-core GPU for a hefty surcharge of 19 euros. The latter is also the only version of the M2 Pro, which will be found in the 16 inch model. The Neural Engine still has 16 cores.

With 40 billion transistors, the M2 Pro about 6,3 billion more transistors than the M1 Pro. However, Apple itself also states that they are concentrating primarily on efficiency with the new SoCs. The battery life is said to have increased by an hour compared to its predecessor.

When it comes to RAM, those interested in the M2 Pro between 16 and 32 gigabytes. If you need more, you have to go for the M2 Max.

Max M2

The M2 Max puts the whole thing in the shade again. 67 billion transistors and a memory bandwidth of 400 gigabytes pro second can already be read very well on the data sheet. Even if it's actually "only" 10 billion more than the M1 Max. For comparison, the M1 Ultra offers 114 billion transistors.

There are also two versions of the M2 Max. The version with a 12-core CPU and 30-core GPU makes the entry. There is also an M2 Max chip with 12 CPU cores and 38 GPU cores. Buyers of this version also have the option. select up to 96 gigabytes of unified memory (RAM). Who wants the "basic" version of the M2 Max. must be satisfied with a maximum of 64 gigabytes.

When it comes to storage, there is still a choice between 512 gigabytes and up to eight terabytes.

Better connectivity

One of the few criticisms of the MacBook Pro with M1 Pro and M1 Max was that the HDMI port was only HDMI 2.0. Apple seems to have listened to the customers and installed it in the new MacBook Pro an HDMI 2.1 port. This comes with various advantages.

HDMI offers a bandwidth of 48 gigabits pro Second. That is 2,6 times as much as with HDMI 2.0. In addition, HDMI 2.1 not only supports 4K with 120 frames pro second, but also 8K with up to 60 frames pro second, as well as resolutions of up to 10K. With HDMI 2.0 was at 4K with 60 frames pro second end.

The rest

Apart from that Apple has with the new MacBook Pros actually changed nothing. Means we still have the 14 or 16 inch Liquid Retina XDR display from the predecessors. This offers a maximum brightness of 1.600 nits for HDR content, a contrast ratio of 1.000.000:1 and support for the entire P3 color space.

In addition, there is the identical keyboard with TouchID, the same connections, the same speakers and yes, even the weight has remained the same.

Also new is the support of WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.

Prices and availability

The new MacBooks are expensive. It was already indicated last year when Apple raised the prices of the devices across the board. It started with the MacBook Air with an M2 chip, which was noticeably more expensive than its predecessor at 1.499 euros.

The MacBook Pro can be ordered now for at least 2.399 euros and should be delivered next week. If you are interested in the 16-inch model, you have to put at least 2.999 euros on the table. Deliveries are also scheduled to begin next week.
