macOS Catalina 10.15: Final version is here
Now the last software innovation from Apple is here, namely macOS Catalina 10.15. The update has been available in the system settings since yesterday.
You can find the "System update" item in the system settings, where all new updates are visible. MacOS Catalina should appear there after a short time, provided you have a supported Mac. These include the following models:
- MacBook (12 inch, 2015 and 2016)
- MacBook Air (2012 and after)
- MacBook Pro (2012 and later)
- Mac mini (2012 and after)
- Mac Pro (2013 and later)
- iMac (2012 and after)
- iMac Pro
The new version of the Mac operating system is 8,09 gigabytes in size. The download may take a while, depending on your internet connection. It is also advisable to make a backup of the data beforehand. It can happen that the Mac crashes during the update and the data is lost, which almost happened to me.
macOS Catalina: Some new features
A new update often means that there are a lot of changes. And yes, you can also find them in the latest version of macOS. Starting with iTunes, the app has now completely disappeared from the Mac. Instead, the user gets three separate apps - music, podcasts and TV - to which the content of the iTunes app is divided. Another app had to believe in it, the classic Reminders. Instead, Apple is now supplying customers with the redesigned version, which I personally like a little better.
Sidecar is a completely new feature. If you have an iPad on which you are logged in with the same iCloud account as the Mac, this can act as a second monitor. This is particularly useful when you need more work space on the go or when working with Apple Pencil in Photoshop. Also: Apple Arcade is now also on board here.
Those are the things worth mentioning, all further information can be found in our WWDC articles. Have you already installed the new version?
