New Messenger from Google: Allo - the WhatsApp killer?
As part of Google I / O 2016, Google presented a new messenger: Allo. This should be better than WhatsApp & Co. and therefore relies on individual chat bots. Is this really the new ultimate WhatsApp killer?
Allo wants to be the first messenger that always provides the correct answer while chatting using chatbots, without having to type. Together with the new video chat app from Google, the two should be successful.
What can and how does Allo work?
At first glance, Allo works like a normal messenger, communication with contacts is also based here, in the contact list on the smartphone and your own number. But that's not all. Google accesses its own Knowledge Graph data, which provides individual answers that you only have to click as a button when chatting without having to type yourself. In addition, you can integrate Google services such as the search engine, Maps and YouTube into a chat with @Google and can therefore have restaurants in the vicinity, pictures and other information displayed by Google.
An example: you get the question "Which restaurant should we go to for pasta tonight?" This is what Google calls “Smart Replies”. In addition, you should be able to emphasize important things better by simply setting the font size of a letter larger or smaller with a slider.
What about encryption and privacy?
Google offers an incognito mode in its own messenger, where the chats are then provided with end-to-end encryption. In addition, in this mode you have the option of having the messages disappear automatically after a few seconds, as with Telegram. Most likely you will not be familiar with using Google's automatic chat assistant in this chat, because: Whoever uses this messenger can be sure that Google always reads & analyzes your own chat behavior - this is the only way such services can be offered.
Google's Messenger will appear this summer as an app for Android & iOS. You can already sign up in the Google Play Store for Allo and duo Pre-register to receive a notification as soon as it is published. There are APKs for Google's new Messenger here.
The messenger can be as good as it wants, as long as it is not used by everyone, like WhatsApp, it has little chance of Kanus to be successful, in my eyes. This of course also applies to the rest of the competition such as Telegram etc.
I don't think much will happen in the next few years.
Hello Niklas, that's right. However, there will certainly be many (especially young people) who find such chatbots practical and thus make typing easier.
But I also believe that WhatsApp will continue to be the # 1 messenger.

I think it's a bit exaggerated to include a Google search or a Google assistant in a chat.
I don't even want to know what the data protection situation looks like here ... Google reads everywhere anyway. I don't know how others see this.
Otherwise, top article!
I think exactly like that, Google can really read everywhere ...
