Some time ago it was announced that the OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 5T do not support HD streaming on Amazon and Netflix. Now, OnePlus has come to this Proproblem and offers an update, but the device must be sent in for this.

At the beginning of December 2017, numerous blogs reported about the lack of support for HD streaming on smartphones. Since then there has been no official statement on this Proproblem Updates were also released during this time. But now an employee in the OnePlus forum is writing about the incident and offering a patch - but with a disappointment.

OnePlus 5 / 5T: Patch for HD streaming must be imported to OnePlus on site

The update will only be sent by post. It is therefore not possible to install the update for support at home. If you want a patch, you have to send the device to OnePlus and wait almost 5 days. Then the smartphone comes back with the "Widevine Level 1 DRM" standard, which is necessary for HD streaming. A Community Manager from the OnePlus forum has the following to this Proproblem voiced:

We have good news for you on this, we've just rolled out a program to update OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T handsets. Due to the security processes involved with updating the devices, we can only deliver the update via a physical connection from an authenticated PC. If you are interested in this update, please contact our CS team for more information.

We're covering the courier costs for OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T customers who would like the update, as you will need to send your device to us to update. we have a process in place which means we'll have your handset back to you in no more than five working days from when we receive it. We've worked hard to streamline this process as much as possible, and because of this we're unable to cover the courier costs for customers outside of our service regions, which are North America, Europe, India, and China.

Edit: Hey guys, we understand this is not a handy approalas, but it is the only option we have.

In summary, OnePlus has certain security criteria when updating devices. For this reason, if you are interested, please contact support for a patch. OnePlus then imports the update directly onto the device from a local computer. In addition, you insure that you will cover the entire shipping costs in the service regions of North America, Europe, India and China. Also interesting: According to OnePlus, the smartphone should reach the customer within 5 days of being sent. “It's not the most practical option, but it's the only option we have,” the Community Manager wrote afterwards.
