OPPO has announced for its entire smartphone line-up Deliver security patches for three years from release. We summarize what that means here.

A similar promises already existed 1-2 months ago, but this time all devices are included, not just the current Find X3 series. However, the Find X series is preferred here - as it belongs to the premium segment, it receives security patches monthly. The remainder should receive patches quarterly.

Security updates faster and longer

Peter Manderfeld, Head of Corporate and Product Communications at OPPO Germany said:

“The security of our devices, and thus also of our customers, is a priority for us. That is why we have been working successively over the past few months to make security updates available faster and for longer. Today it is our goal to provide security updates for all of our smartphones for a period of three years to ensure that our customers can now use their OPPO smartphones for longer without any security concerns "

In my opinion, this is a step in the right direction. Even if it only affects the security patches, has it caused a general rethink? Maybe when Samsung announced a few months ago that it would provide several years of software support for their Galaxy devices? However, the update situation is constantly improving, which is commendable.

What do you think on the subject? How many updates or security patches would be important for you?
