Overcast: New feature for splitting audio and video clips
Overcast is next Pocket Casts another popular podcast app, but only for iOS. The app now has a feature for sharing short audio and video clips.
In a blog post, the developer of Overcast explains why he introduced this new function. He says that it is not so easy today to share parts of podcast episodes with others, especially on platforms like Instagram and Co, because they do not accept pure audio files. Tools that create videos already exist, but these are only limited to certain podcast networks. This is where his new feature for creating the videos should be used.
Podcast sharing has been limited to audio and links, but today's social networks are more reliant on images and video, especially Instagram. Podcasts need video clips to be shared more easily today.
I've seen some video clips from tools specific to certain podcast networks or hosts, but they were never available to everyone, or for every show. So people mostly just haven't shared podcast clips, understandably, because it has been too hard.
In order to share excerpts, there is now a new option in the Share menu for precisely this functionality. After you have determined the desired length (maximum one minute), you have to choose whether you only want the audio track or also the associated video, if the publisher of the podcast provides one. The clip can now be divided. Overcast is available for free in the Apple App Store.
