OVH: Hosting company fire destroys hundreds of servers in the data center
A fire broke out in the French data center in Strasbourg at the cloud and server service provider OVHcloud. Saving the servers in the SBG-2 data center was no longer possible. The local fire brigade is currently still cooling the surrounding data centers.
OVH is one of the largest internet service providers in Europe. A fire broke out in the data center at OVH last night at around 00:47 a.m. Like OVH founder Octave Klaba via Twitter reported, SBG-2 was completely destroyed, as well as some parts of SBG-1. SBG-4 is not affected, SBG-3 is currently still cooling the fire brigade. That's why the servers will not be started again today. Some of the servers in the surrounding data centers have been without power since the early hours of the morning. There should be no injuries, all employees are out of danger. You can decide whether you are affected yourself in the customer center look - the server location will be displayed there.

OVH: What happens to the servers?
The servers in SBG-2 will probably no longer be salvageable. Some servers in SBG-1 can no longer be saved either, servers in SBG-3 and SBG-4 have only been shut down. OVH recommends affected customers to activate the "Disaster Recovery Plan". On the Status page will provide OVH with further information in the next few hours. The company has not yet announced which customers and how many servers are exactly affected. But it will probably be around a few hundred servers.
Update: OVH now has a statement in its own right Corporate blog published.
Update 2: Like OVH on the status page announces, the first servers in SBG-1 and SBG-4 will be available again on Monday, March 15, 2021 and further servers in SBG-3 will not be available again until Friday, March 19, 2021.
