Philips Hue: Update brings "zones" for grouping several lamps

Yesterday Philips released a fresh update for its Hue system. Philips Hue now supports so-called “zones” with which several rooms and lamps can be grouped together.

Philips regularly asks its users which function should move into the system next. A few months ago, the majority decided to group several lamps - now the feature is here. Up until now it was only possible to control individual lamps using room groups. Unfortunately, there has not yet been a sensible way of grouping two rooms. A specific application would be, for example, to switch off the entire floor - this would then contain several rooms. To do this, you had to create another room with all the lamps on the floor. However, this is very tedious. With the so-called "zones" you can now combine rooms into a group.

Only the Philips Hue app needs to be updated

The new feature is currently in beta. So it could be that some errors still occur - but everyone can already use the new functionprobeer This does not require an update of the bridge, only the Android or iOS app must be updated. Simply update in the respective store and the new feature is already available. A new zone can then be added in the "Home" or start view under the three menu items at the top right under "Rooms and Zones". If you now click on "Create" and "Create zone", you can create a new zone here.

Since the function is still review phase, as I said, these zones cannot yet be connected to routines and controlled using Alexa. But that will certainly be possible in the coming weeks or months. On twitter Philips explains its function again in more detail.
