Samsung Galaxy Note 9: device caught fire in handbag
Two years ago it happened several times that Note 7 from Samsung caught fire. In the end, all devices were recalled. Now a new incident is reminiscent of the disaster two years ago when a Note 9 caught fire.
On September 3rd, a New York broker was using her Samsung Galaxy Note 9 when it suddenly got very hot. According to her information, she then switched off the display and put the phablet back in her handbag. Suddenly the real estate agent heard a "whistling and howling noise" and noticed smoke, whereupon she emptied her bag - the Note 9 actually caught fire. The latter could only be extinguished when a passer-by threw the device, which had caught fire, into a bucket of water.
Are the incidents from two years ago repeating themselves?
The New York broker filed a lawsuit that has already reached Samsung. The company then assured the tech blog CNET that the batteries in the Note 9 models were safe and that this incident would be an isolated incident. Two years ago, several Note 7 devices caught fire due to a design flaw. The whole disaster ended with a recall of the top phablets. Samsung is already investigating the affected device and the incident. Let's hope that this accident is an isolated incident.
