Samsung Galaxy S20 FE officially presented: Cheaper and better

Samsung streamed the Galaxy Unpacked event today. There they introduced us to the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE.

The "FE" stands for Fan Edition. This is to say that there aren't any major comms compared to last year's S10 Litepromissing to the flagship model. We're open here TechnikNews einige Leaks Delivered to the S20 FE - now it turns out that a great many of them actually became reality.

Let's start with the back. The focus here was not on glass, but again on "glass" (mixture of plastic and glass) - we already know from the standard Note-20. The fan edition comes in 6 different colors: Cloud Navy, Cloud Lavender, Cloud Mint, Cloud Red, Cloud White and Cloud Orange. These colors were confirmed on Render a few weeks ago. Personally, I like the Cloud Mint best, even if Samsung may have been a little bit inspired by Apple here.

Camera

There are three cameras on the back - similar to the one on the S20. A 12-megapixel wide-angle camera was installed as the main sensor, an ultra-wide-angle camera with 12 megapixels and also an 8-megapixel telephoto lens with triple optical zoom, thus realizing the "super resolution zoom" (30x, digital) . The design of the camera hill was taken from the S20 series, but was tinted with slightly darker colors as with the Note 20 series (but does not apply to Cloud Navy and Cloud White).

Display

The 6,5-inch Super AMOLED display is completely flat with a punch-hole cutout for the front camera, which has 32 megapixels. The edges are kept thin, but are a little more dominant next to the S20. Although the resolution is only FullHD, you get a repetition rate of 120 Hertz. A feature that only works with this resolution on the S20 devices anyway. We already know the under-display fingerprint sensor from the S20, as well as the stereo speakers. There is no jack plug for this.

Processor

Now we come to the most important point in my opinion: the processor. Samsung used the Exynos 990 in the 4G version and, surprisingly, the Snapdragon 865 in the 5G version. The Snapdragon chip is not only faster, but also more energy efficient, but it also costs €100 more. The Snapdragon variant received a 5G modem with Wi-Fi 6, which supports not only sub-6, but also millimeter-wave 5G (both versions of 5G, not just one like the s20). The only thing that was saved was the RAM, with the starting configuration starting at 6 GB.

If you want to know more about the differences between the two processors, here. find.

Battery

Battery for days: The built-in battery has 4.500 mAh and should probably last a long time with the Snapdragon version. But if it is empty, it can be charged up to 25% within 30 minutes with 50W “Super Fast Charging”. All other features are also taken from the S20 series: SUPER STEADY (AI image stabilization), Wireless Charging 2.0, Wireless Powershare, Dex and Quick Share.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE: prices and availability

The entry-level version of the Galaxy S20 FE starts at 650 euros. Pre-orders start today.
