The design of the Galaxy S23 Ultra hasn't changed that much compared to its predecessor. Samsung still uses the angular design known from the Note. Also means the Galaxy S23 Ultra is still very big and heavy. Compared to the predecessor, the display is no longer rounded off as much. This should increase the usable area of the S-Pen. The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will be available in Phantom Black, Green, Cream and Lavender colors. The colors Graphite, Red, Sky Blue and Lime will be exclusively available in the Samsung online shop.
The OLED display of the Galaxy S23 Ultra measures 6,8 inches and has a pin-sharp resolution of 3.088 x 1.440 pixels. The resulting PPI of 500 should be enough for everyone. As in the previous year, this is a Dynamic AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 1 to 120 Hz and the brightness also remains at a maximum of 1.750 nits. This year, however, the display will be from the new Corning Gorilla Glass Victory 2 geschützt.
After many have complained about the in-house Exynos SoCs in the past, Samsung has given the Galaxy S23 series the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which is probably the strongest chip for Android smartphones on the market. And it doesn't stop there. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy also clocks a little higher than in other models with Qualcomm's top SoC.
The device has either 256 or 512 gigabytes of UFS 4.0 storage available. A version with 1 TB is exclusively available in the Samsung online shop. Here and in the version with 512 gigabytes of internal memory, 12 gigabytes of RAM are available to the customer. The 256 gigabyte version only has 8 gigabytes.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra comes with One UI 5.1, based on Android 13. Samsung promises 4 years of OS updates and 5 years of security updates.
In addition to the performance, the camera is probably the biggest change. While the changes to the 12 megapixel ultra wide-angle camera and the two 10 megapixel telephoto cameras are more to be found on the software side, the manufacturer from South Korea relies on an incredible 200 megapixels for the main camera. Pixel binning technology is used here and 16 images are combined into one. The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra takes pictures with 12,5 megapixels. On request, pictures can also be taken with 50 or 200 megapixels. Although they then take up a lot of memory, they also offer incredible image sharpness.
Only the revised front camera is actually new. This now triggers with 12 megapixels and has an autofocus.
Samsung also wants to have further improved the night mode this year. With the help of expertRaw, 50 megapixel raw images, astrophotography and multi exposure are possible. Thanks to nightography video, videos should now also look better at night. In low light or in situations that would normally cause blur, videos are stable in all directions thanks to the double optical image stabilizer. Videos in general are now possible in 8K, with 30 FPS and a larger viewing angle.
The battery hasn't changed much compared to the Galaxy S22 Ultra either. Samsung still relies on 5.000 mAh. However, thanks to the more efficient SoC, the runtime is said to have improved. Samsung itself speaks of up to 20% compared to the predecessor. If the battery is empty, it can be charged with up to 3.2 watts via the USB-C 45 port. Wireless charging is possible with 15 watts each and reverse wireless charging is also supported.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra offers everything a tech heart desires. In addition to stereo speakers, an X-axis vibration motor and an IP68 certification, it also offers WIFI 6E, Bluetooth 5.3 and support for Ultra Wide Band. The S-Pen known from the Note series has been available ultra exclusively since last year.
Samsung is again promoting sustainability this year. Even more recycled materials are used in production than in the Galaxy S22 series. This includes pre-consumer recycled aluminum and glass, as well as post-consumer recycled plastic made from discarded fishing nets, water barrels and PET bottles.
