Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G presented: folding smartphone for 1.049 euros

The long wait is finally over, because today was the big Samsung event, where some new Proproducts were officially presented. In addition to a watch and new headphones, there are now two foldable smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G and Z Fold3 5G. In this article we want to take a closer look at the Flip3.
Not that much has changed on paper compared to last year's predecessor, but the new foldable comes with a fresh design and a significantly lower recommended retail price.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G: design
From the outside, Samsung has come up with something new. Like its predecessor, the back is made of glass, but this year it is matte, which is why fingerprints are hardly noticeable. The upper area around the cameras and the second panel is black and completely glossy. As a result, the Z Flip3 is strongly reminiscent of past Pixel smartphones, such as the Pixel 2 XL, especially in the white color. Otherwise, the Z Flip3 is also available in black, cream, green, lavender, gray and pink.
If we look at the front, we hardly notice any differences to the predecessor. Here, too, dominates a huge display with a long 22: 9 aspect ratio, which is only interrupted by a small punch hole. The bezels around the screen are a bit thicker than on the S21 series, but by no means annoyingly thick. That's fine for a foldable.
When opened, the smartphone measures 166 mm in height, 72,2 mm in width and is only 6,9 mm thick. Of course, the device becomes significantly smaller as soon as you close it. Then it only measures 86,4 mm in height and should therefore profit easily in any trouser pocket. With a weight of only 183 grams, it is one of the lighter smartphones nowadays.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G: Specs
The main display is a flexible OLED panel with an FHD + resolution (2.640 x 1.080 pixels) and 120 Hertz, which makes scrolling and all animations much smoother. The front display is also an OLED panel. This has a diagonal of 1,9 inches and has a resolution of 260 x 512 pixels. The second display is perfect for selfies with the main camera or to control your music, for example.
The software used is the in-house One UI user interface in version 3.1.1, based on Android 11. This device should also be supplied with software updates for three years and security updates for four years. Under the hood is the Snapdragon 888 from Qualcomm, which is manufactured using the energy-saving 5-nanometer process and is currently one of the strongest Processors on the market. It is supported by 8 GB of RAM and either 128 or 256 GB of internal memory, which unfortunately cannot be expanded via a microSD card.
The battery has a capacity of 3.300 mAh and can be charged with up to 15 watts. Wireless charging is possible with up to 10 watts. The fingerprint sensor has been integrated into the frame on the right side and customers can expect impressive sound thanks to the stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos profit.
Unfortunately, you have to make some compromises with the cameras compared to current high-end smartphones. The Z Flip3 offers the camera setup from the Galaxy S10e from 2019. Yes, that's right, from the Galaxy S10e and not the cameras from the S21. The main camera with a sensor size of 1 / 2.55 inches has a resolution of 12 megapixels and should be able to capture a lot of light thanks to the bright aperture of f / 1.8. There is also an ultra-wide-angle camera that is 1 / 3.0 inch and also has a resolution of 12 megapixels. The front camera has a resolution of 10 megapixels.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G is offered with 128 GB of internal storage for 1.049 euros in all colors and customers have to pay 50 euros more for double storage. All colors are also available in this variant.
