Snapchat had Fundamentally changed the design of the app at the end of 2017. Numerous users criticized the redesign of the app. There were even petitions with over a million signatures. Now one should again rely on chronology in the overview.

After the failed start of the Snapchat update in December 2017, the company now seems to give in. Through Petitionen and #deletesnapchat numerous users spread their annoyance about the new design of the app. As Techcrunch reported, that seems to be changing again. Some users in the USA are said to have received an update that should significantly improve the overview again. We also received the update for a short time via detours (VPN, English language setting and the latest beta).

Chronological timeline and separation between chats and stories

The Snapchat app is currently divided into two areas. On the left you can find the friends page with their chats and stories. On the right side are the stories of stars, editors and popular Snapchatters. The biggest change was the sorting of the friends page by an algorithm, which was introduced with the redesign. This means that the snaps and stories received are rearranged every time the app is updated and the app is reopened. But the biggest point of criticism was the summary of chats and stories. In the past, you could find your friends' stories in a practical chronological overview.

Most users think that's good: Chats and stories will in future be displayed separately and sorted chronologically. (Picture: TechnikNews/Screenshot)

With the new update, the friends area is again divided into two areas. In the upper menu you can switch between stories and chats. Both views, including the chats, are also sorted chronologically again. The public snaps from stars and editors can still be found on the right-hand side. Next Instagram Snapchat now seems to be the next app that wants to focus more on chronological sorting of the content.

But what's next? It is assumed that in the future you will probably be able to determine the sorting yourself. That would be a good compromiss after the rather unsuccessful start in December. However, it may be a few weeks before the update is available in Germany and Austria. So far, the update will be sent to US users with the latest Snapchat beta gradually distributed.
