Sonos presented the new Sonos Amp at an event in Berlin today. Specifically, the box should expand its existing Sonos system and be streamed directly via the television. We were at the event and have more information.

The successor to the old Sonos Connect Amp should deliver twice the performance compared to its predecessor. With Sonos Amp, the smart speaker manufacturer has a music streaming box for your own home in its luggage. This should also integrate other non-Sonos loudspeakers into the system.

The Sonos Amp can do that

The Sonos Amp supports streaming via AirPlay 2, Spotify and other Sonos sources and can be operated with voice control. For this function, however, there must be at least one smart speaker from Sonos in the house, which is equipped with a microphone or assistant.

On the back of the Sonos Amp offers numerous connections to which its non-smart speakers can be connected. In addition, the Sonos Amp has HDMI ARC and should be able to offer the best sound experience in your own living room. Surround 2.1 solutions as well as 4.1 systems can be set up very easily. For the second, however, a second Sonos amp is required.

Prices and availability

Let's get to the most important point: The Sonos Amp will be available on the market from the beginning of February 2019 for a proud 699 euros. This will also be available from us. The only color available here is black. The reason for this is a system that is as inconspicuous as possible and should be black.

… That was not all

The Sonos system has an API that is open to all developers. (Image: © 2018 TechnikNews)

In addition, Sonos announced that it intends to offer its own API for developers in the future. They just have to register and get instant access to the system. You could now import and export playlists into the Sonos system using a third-party app.

Another piece of news was a new partnership with Sonance. The architecture market leader known in the country of origin is bringing new stylish speakers onto the market together with Sonos. Ideally, these should not be visible and should be integrated directly into furniture and walls.
