Sonos is currently offering a discount campaign for existing users. They get a discount of 30 Procent when buying a new speaker. If you take advantage of this offer, you will destroy your old speakers for good.

A current discount campaign from Sonos went unbelievably in the pants. One would like to see the users of older devices on new speakers and is currently sending out e-mails about a discount campaign. This offers users 30 Procent discount when buying a new speaker. Not a bad deal at first glance. However, the old loudspeakers are rendered unusable if the offer is claimed.

Recycling mode: Sonos speakers can only be used for 21 days

Specifically, users of a Sonos Play: 5 1st generation, Sonos Connect or Connect: Amp are currently informed of the discount by email.

If you follow the link in the email, log in with your Sonos account and claim the 30 Procent discount, it's too late. A software update is loaded onto the loudspeakers, which deletes all data on the loudspeaker after 21 days and then deactivates itself. So nothing to resell. Then the only option left is to recycle the speaker. In times of discussions and measures to protect the environment, of course, a real disaster.

gegenüber The Verge it is argued that the ten-year-old devices do not optimally support the current Sonos software and therefore there is no question of reselling old devices. Nevertheless, this campaign did not do itself a favor. So rather not take advantage of the offer and either continue to use your devices or sell them - you have a lot more of them.
