Spotify: Storyline available now

In Spotify for Android and iOS there is “Behind the lyrics”, which gives background information on the current song. A new feature called Storyline is a similar feature, but in an Instagram style.

Android Police discovered the new storyline feature in version 8.5.5.853 of the Android app from Spotify. The new function is already appearing for me too. But how does this differ from “Behind the lyrics”? The data for this comes from an external service called Genius. With Storyline, artists can enter their own information directly into Spotify for Artists.

Storyline can be found in the current playback under the associated controls and “Behind the lyrics”. However, it has only been found in very few songs so far, as very few songwriters use the function. It is particularly noticeable that the storyline works in a similar way to the stories in Instagram or Snapchat. An image or video is optionally shown with text for a few seconds until the next one appears. You can skip by tapping on the right half of the display. If the new feature has not yet appeared, you have to wait a few more days. Spotify is rolling out Storyline only gradually.
