Telegram: Android 2.2, 2.3 and 3.0 no longer receive support
Telegram is discontinuing support for Android 2.2, 2.3 and 3.0. After WhatsApp has taken this step, Telegram is now also following.
The mobile messenger will no longer work for all users who are still using Android 2.2, 2.3 and 3.0, but there is still Telegram's website. So you can still use Telegram, but not on your smartphone.
WhatsApp is also discontinuing support
At the moment, it seems like Telegram is following WhatsApp. WhatsApp announced a few months ago that they would permanently end support for older versions. It doesn't matter whether you are an iOS or Android user. WhatsApp and Telegram are simply too modern for these devices, they say. Telegram's FAQ page states that the smartphone requires at least Android 4.0 Ice Cream. WhatsApp, on the other hand, does not support Android 3.0.
About 1,4 Procent of Android users use Android 2.2, 2.3 and 3.0
It doesn't sound like much, but it really isn't. Around 19,6 million devices are still using the older versions as they would probably not be compatible with the newer ones. For now, iOS users don't have to worry as Telegram continues to support the outdated version.
