Threads is now also launching in the EU

Threads, the Twitter/X clone of Instagram, has been around since July - but not in the EU. That has now changed, you can now also use the service with us.

The fall in popularity of Twitter/X last year caused several alternatives to spring up at a fairly high rate. One of these is Threads by Meta, which you can think of as Instagram but with a focus on text instead of images. The big advantage of Threads is that you can use your existing Instagram account and therefore have immediate access to all of your existing followers.

However, due to EU data protection guidelines, the service could not immediately start with us last July. At the beginning it was still possible to access it with a VPN, but Meta quickly put a stop to this option. Meta promised this Proto fix the problem and now the wait is over.

Threads in the EU: As an app or on the web

From now on you can also use Threads with us. On the one hand, this can be done via the app, which is available in... App Store and Play Store can be found, or about the Service website. This was announced on a small scale as an Easter egg in the Instagram app and with a counter on the website. It is therefore not clear what exactly has been changed so that the service now follows the EU rules.

If you don't see the app right away, it may be due to the phased distribution. In that case you can proBe sure to restart the device once. If that doesn't help either, patience is required. In any case, it can't take much longer.
