Vanced: Popular YouTube client with many features is being discontinued
Vanced may be known to some as an alternative client for YouTube. This is known for its numerous personalization options. The popular app for Android is now being discontinued, as the developers have announced.
Watching YouTube without ads, skipping sponsorship parts in a video, dark mode, continuing to watch the video in the background, displaying dislikes on the smartphone again – it all sounds too good to be true. But exactly these things were with vanced possible. As you can now imagine, Google did not want this at all. Not without reason the app was never available in the Google Play Store. The client was particularly popular with Huawei users who have to do without Google services.
Developers announce the ending: "Have to do it"
As the Proproject team now via Reddit announces that this decision had to be made. You don't give a precise reason, you don't have to know that either, you should just imagine what "must" could mean. Clearly – most likely Google has dem Proproject has now drawn a line through the bill. The apps will now remain available for download from the official website for a few days.
After that, the apps can continue to be used until all API connections used in the app stop working at some point. This can only happen in a few weeks, months or even years. At least there will be no more official support and functions will no longer be developed. In order to get as close as possible to the range of functions of Vanced, a YouTube Premium subscription is required. This at least brings back the playing of videos in the background and the freedom from advertising. Currently being for YouTube Premium 11,99 euros per month due.
