vivo V40 and V40 Lite presented: The smartphones for the 2024 European Football Championship

In keeping with the kick-off of EURO 2024 a few days ago, vivo introduced the next smartphones in the V40 series after the V40 SE: the V40 and V40 Lite. We were there at the launch in Munich and were able to take a look at the devices in advance.
The vivo V40 SE has been around for some time, and we at this point have already tested for you. Now comes the entry-level smartphone and another mid-range smartphone. This year, vivo is one of the main sponsors of EURO 2024 in Germany - football fans will probably have already noticed the advertising in this regard. In this article, the "secret" of which smartphones exactly are involved is revealed.
vivo V40
The special feature of the two models is the focus on portrait photography, which is supposed to be even better thanks to the so-called "Aura Light", which we already know from other vivo models. Twitch and streaming fans may already be familiar with a kind of light ring for better illumination of the face - now it is even brighter in the vivo V40. This is supposed to serve as an alternative to the flash and thus not flash the object, but illuminate it well. Reflections or over-brightened snapshots should be a thing of the past - this is also ensured by the option to adjust the color temperature of the ring. In collaboration with the optics specialist ZEISS, vivo has refined and developed its camera setup.
But now in more detail: The main part is a 50 MP main camera with an f/1.88 aperture, 1,56-inch GNJ sensor (with OIS and PDAF). There is also a 50 MP wide-angle lens with an f/2.0 aperture. The selfie camera also has a resolution of 50 megapixels (f/2.0). Under the hood is the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 from Qualcomm, which is supported by 8 GB RAM and 256 GB/512 GB internal memory (upgradable using a microSD card). The display is 6,78 inches and has a resolution of 120 x 2.800 pixels at 1.260 Hz. The maximum brightness is 4.500 nits peak.
Funtouch 14, which is based on Android 14, is used as the software basis. The whole thing is particularly thin at 7,58 millimeters and comparatively light at 190 grams. Prices and details about the market launch will follow, but it should be available in Austria in the summer.
vivo V40 Lite
The Lite model in the series is known to be cheaper and technically slimmed down. In this case, it even comes in a different design for the camera arrangement than the vivo V40. Otherwise, there is also a 6,78 inch display with 120 Hz and a different resolution of 2.400 x 1.080 pixels. The camera comes with a dual setup with a 50 MP main camera (f/1.79; Sony IMX882) and a wide-angle camera with 8 MP. The above-mentionedproThe Aura Light LED is also available in the Lite model.
The processor is also a bit weaker: the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 is used here with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB/512 GB internal storage. The exact prices and details for the Lite model at the market launch are also still unclear.
