This week, Google announced that it would rename its smartwatch operating system. The logo should also look new. We summarize which smartwatches get an update.

Android Wear is history. Except for a name change and a new logo, not much has changed. Presumably, Google took inspiration from Apple for the change. The Californians call the OS for the Apple Watch "WATCH". Some smartwatches are therefore now updated to the latest version.

Wear OS: These smartwatches will receive the update

When the smartwatch is started, the current “Android Wear” text will be replaced by a simple W in Google colors. You can see an animation below. Google has also already renamed the Twitter account from “Android Wear” to “Wear OS by Google”. The new name should now better match the technology and the vision itself. Presumably, one would like to bring the software even more closely into connection with Google itself in the future. According to Google, these smartwatches will receive the new update soon:

  • Casio PRO TREK Smart WSD-F20
  • Casio WSD-F10 Smart Outdoor Watch
  • Diesel Full Guard
  • Emporio Armani Connected
  • Fossil Q Control
  • Fossil Q Explorist
  • Fossil Q Founder 2.0
  • Fossil Q Marshal
  • Fossil Q Venture
  • Fossil Q Wander
  • Guess Connect
  • Gc Connect
  • Huawei Watch 2 (both cellular & non-cellular versions)
  • Hugo BOSS BOSS Touch
  • Kate spade scallop
  • LG Watch Sport
  • LG Watch Style
  • Louis Vuitton Tambour
  • Misfit Vapor
  • Michael Kors Access Bradshaw
  • Michael Kors Access Dylan
  • Michael Kors Access Grayson
  • Michael Kors Sofie
  • Montblanc Summit

  • polar M600
  • Skagen Falster smart watch
  • TAG Heuer Connected Modular 41
  • TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45
  • Tommy Hilfiger 24 / 7 You

So we will only see smartwatches under the name "Wear OS" in the future. It is doubtful whether the name change will really benefit Google that much. At the developer fair Google I/O At the beginning of May 2018, from May 8th to 10th, we will probably hear more news about “Wear OS by Google”.
