We reported on one back in May possible video function in WhatsApp, where there were also screenshots. So far, no one except the alleged leaker has been able to test the function. Now it appears for the first time in the WhatsApp beta for Android.

Finally it has officially appeared in the popular messenger WhatsApp: the video function. Now all users who are in the betaProprogram of the Google Play Store for WhatsApp are already testing the feature. Also we from TechnikNews were able to test the function and it worked flawlessly for us. Unfortunately, we could not determine that the transition from WLAN to cellular network worked properly. That goes with Google's video messenger duo currently better. The whole thing is still in beta - so far only for Android.

Call contact in WhatsApp - that's how it works!

As long as the update has not yet been officially rolled out in the Play Store, you have to fall back on the preview version. To do this, you have to join the Google Play beta group from WhatsApp - then you should receive an update in the store. If you have now installed this, you have to click on the phone symbol next to one of your contacts. You should now be able to choose between “Voice Call” and “Video Call”. The prerequisite for a video call is that the contact also has the beta for Android. Otherwise you will get an error message. In the case of an active video call, this is similar to a normal voice call, only with a moving image of the contact.

So far there is no information about when the function will be rolled out for everyone. If you want to get an idea of the function yourself, you can use the beta. iOS users will have to be patient for a few more weeks.

Video calls are available in the iOS beta as well as in the Android beta. The last sentence is poorly researched
