The Windows Mobile operating system for Lumia smartphones has long been declared dead. Not only because there are almost no apps left, but also because Microsoft's support will soon be discontinued. WhatsApp and Threema are also taking this step and turning off support for Windows 10 Mobile at the end of the year.

Updates for Windows 10 Mobile are no longer worthwhile - not only finds Microsoft, but also app developers. Instagram threw in the towel a few weeks ago and stopped supporting the mobile operating system. Now the next two social media apps will say goodbye in the next few months. As Yahoo writes, you will no longer be able to use the two messenger apps on Windows Phones by the end of this year. Threema recently released version 3.0 and at the same time announces a discontinuation of the service on Windows Phone.

Microsoft is also discontinuing support for Windows 10 Mobile

Microsoft, too, will soon give up the mobile operating system and no longer offer any support, let alone updates. The support will be officially discontinued on December 10, 2019. Although there were generally no major updates in the past, security patches have been released from time to time. Now even Microsoft recommends switching to Android or iOS - Windows Mobile is dead.

However, if you switch to Android or iOS, you cannot take messages from both apps with you - these remain on the Windows Phone. Users who have also saved backups of the Windows Phone in the cloud should also download it - on March 10, 2020, these will be permanently deleted.
