Withings has on the CES 2022 presented the new Body Scan scale in Las Vegas. This is the successor to the Withings Body Cardiowhich has now been several years under its belt. Now there is a full-fledged EKG, measurement of nerve activity and expanded body composition.

The French manufacturer of health gadgets today presented a new scale on the first day of CES 2022. The new model is called Withings Body Scan. The name is probably the same as the watch - Withing's ScanWatch - on. With the hybrid watch it is possible to measure an EKG and the oxygen saturation in the blood (SpO2). The first feature is now also included in the body scales category. The new gadget should be able to measure to within 50 grams.

  • New functions such as 6-channel ECG, more detailed body composition for each body region and a larger color display
  • Neuropathy detection helps to identify the development of the nervous disease, often in connection with diabetes
  • Previous features, such as pulse wave speed, vascular age and pulse measurement, have also been re-integrated

We already know how to measure body composition from the Withings Body Cardio. After each measurement, this shows bone mass, body fat percentage, muscle mass and water percentage of the body. However, it has not yet been possible to read from these measured values which value is highest or lowest and where. With the Withings Body Scan, these measured values are now expanded to include a "Details" tab in the app, in which the composition of each body region (arms, torso, legs) is displayed.

Neuropathy Detection for Diabetics

With the new scale, they want to offer people measurements "that they don't even get at annual check-ups at the doctor's," says Mathieu Letombe, Withings CEO. They also want to support diabetics with the new neuropathy detection. Neuropathy is a common complication associated with diabetes, characterized by damage to small nerves. Untreated neuropathy can become serious Procause problems. This can be determined by measuring nerve activity – a low level of nerve activity indicates a possible sign of neuropathy.

So that all of these measurements are possible, Withings has added a handle to the scale. This lies in a bowl on the scales - during a measuring process it is pulled out and held in place. Otherwise, the design remains the same, except for a few minor visual improvements. The 3,2-inch display is larger and has a color LCD screen that can display statistics and ECG recordings live. The previous functions, such as pulse wave speed, pulse measurement and vascular age, are also retained.

Price and availability

The Withings Body Scan will be available after CE approval in the second half of 2022. It is expected to be priced at 299,95 euros (RRP) and be available in black and white.
