The Xiaomi Mi Watch is here. It is very similar to the Apple Watch, which you can quickly see in the pictures. In terms of software and equipment, of course, we find completely different things here. In this article we present the smartwatch in more detail and tell you when and whether it will be available in this country.

Xiaomi makes a lot of smartphones, but so far the parent company has only offered wearables We Band Line. For real watches there is the subsidiary "Amazfit", whose watches are missing a few features for many customers: A "real" operating system with App Store, E-Sim or to be able to respond to messages. Xiaomi has now taken on board and presented its first smartwatch in China a few days ago.

The design - inspired by the Apple Watch

In the past, Xiaomi has never been inhibited from copying designs from Apple one-to-one. The Mi Watch is identical to the one except for the flat and not round edge of the case Watch Apple 5. When I mean identical, I really mean identical. With 448 × 368 pixels, the display has exactly the same resolution as the Apple Watch 5 and the size is also 1,78 inches.

Google operating system on board

Here Xiaomi uses the well-known Wear OS from Google. This has not been adapted or changed a bit like with all other manufacturers, but pretty much - it even comes with its own skin. The same is based on MIUI, the operating system that Xiaomi already uses on their smartphones. Everything together is called “MIUI for Watch”.

It's inside

As a Prozessor, Xiaomi uses the latest Snapdragon Wear 3100, which is a dual-core SoC and is clocked at up to 1,1 GHz. Xiaomi also installs 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage. Big advantage on this one Prozessor is a power-saving core, which ensures that the Always On Display does not use the normal cores and therefore does not consume a lot of power.

When it comes to connectivity, Xiaomi has installed everything that is possible in the watch, but not always the latest. So: LTE E-Sim support, which makes the watch independent of the smartphone, WLAN (no ac), Bluetooth 4.2 (no 5), GPS and NFC. The battery is already relatively large at 570 mAh in the standard version, but it is 20 mAh more in the premium version. Nevertheless, Xiaomi only states a battery life of around 36 hours. This is largely due to the amount of connectivity in the watch, the Proprocessor and the operating system.

Prices and availability

The Mi Watch comes in two versions. The aluminum version has been available since 11.11 (Singles Day) available in China for the equivalent of 167 euros. The premium version with a stainless steel case and a display cover made of artificial sapphire glass will only be available from December for 257 euros.

According to the current status, the watch should not officially come to us in Europe. Traders like TradingShenzhen but already list the watch and here, as a customer from Germany or Austria, you will certainly be able to strike.
