Xiaomi: US court blacklisted companies and lifted sanctions
We had in January of this year berichtetthat the US government has blacklisted Xiaomi. A US court does not consider these sanctions to be sufficiently justified and is lifting the upcoming sanctions completely. What that means for users now.
Chinese companies have been a thorn in the side of the Trump administration in the United States. Both Huawei and Xiaomi were blacklisted during his tenure. As we detailed in our FAQ article here have described, the sanctions against Xiaomi would have come into force this year. That would have meant that investors would have to sell the shares or shares in the Chinese company from November 11, 2021.
Judge lifts the upcoming Xiaomi ban: "Not adequately justified"
Xiaomi had filed an injunction against this after this announcement by the Saktion. A judge in the USA has now dismissed these sanctions, claiming that the US Department of Defense did not adequately justify them and that they exceeded their powers, such as "The standard" reported. In addition, there were incorrect quotations in the legal text - the legal text was also incorrect. "These mistakes do not create confidence in the thoroughness of the decision-making process," he said.
US sanctions against Xiaomi lifted: what that means for users
Nothing would have happened to the users anyway. Even after November, there would still have been Google apps or Google services - and thus also Android - on Xiaomi devices. Even the hardware, such as ProQualcomm processors would have continued to be available. However, it could well have happened that the sanctions against Xiaomi could have become stricter and then also affected the users.
Unfortunately, there are no changes at Huawei - the sanctions continue to apply here.
