Huawei P20 and P20 Pro: Disable notch – here's how!

With the new smartphones P20 and P20 Pro Huawei also relies on a recess at the top of the screen, the so-called notch. Since the introduction of the iPhone X from Apple this is on everyone's lips. But Huawei has solved the matter cleverly - the notch can be deactivated. In this guide we show how it all works.

Not every user likes the notch. Huawei seems to have known this too, and under EMUI 8.1 it offers a way to "switch off" the notch of the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro. Of course, the notch cannot be "deactivated" in this sense - only the software then works differently. After hiding the notch in the smartphone settings, this then shows two black bars next to the notch. The smartphone then looks like it has no cut-out.

How to switch the notch of Huawei P20 and P20 Pro from

To hide the notch, you have to switch to the settings of the smartphone. Here you select the menu item "Display". There is a sub-item “Notch” (on some smartphones also under “Notch”) - the software-based deactivation can be switched on and off here. Depending on the setting, the display content is continued next to the recess or black bars are displayed on the left and right. However, the area is not completely hidden - the notification bar is only provided with a black background. So you can find the "hidden" notch in the middle, the notification icons on the left and the time with battery indicator on the right.

Nonetheless, Huawei seems to have solved this cleverly. However, it is not known exactly whether a notch would have been necessary for the P20 series. After all, you leave a thick border at the bottom, which you could have used above the display. Also the upcoming flagship OnePlus 6 should probably be equipped with a trend notch. In addition, it will probably still be in the future many smartphones with notch give. a comproMissing out of both is certainly not bad either.
