Huawei hasn't had it easy in recent years. Nevertheless, they do not give up and bring new innovations to the market with each generation. With the Huawei Mate 50 Pro the manufacturer presented the first smartphone with a variable aperture.

In the following lines you will learn what Huawei is doing with the new Mate 50 Pro everything included and how it looks in the first impression after a few days of use.

Unboxing

In recent years, it has somehow become a trend that manufacturers continue to reduce the packaging contents and Huawei is also on the Chinese version from last year P50 Pro jumped on the train. It quickly became apparent that this was not the right way, which is why the European version of the Huawei P50 Pro everything you need included. The Mate 50 Pro is now consistently continuing on this path. In addition to the smartphone, the USB-C cable and the paperwork, the box also contains a transparent case and a 66 watt power supply.

Huawei Mate 50 Pro in the first impression

After the first few days, it is not clear how good the Huawei Mate 50 Pro is. It's a bit more compact than other flagships, such as the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra or iPhone 14 Pro Max. Due to the subtle rounding on the front and back, it lies comfortably in the hand and is easy to use. However, the keys are placed a bit too high for my taste. In general, I have to criticize the design as of now. The notch is relatively large, the black color attracts fingerprints almost magically, which is why I would recommend the silver color option to everyone, and the fingerprint sensor integrated into the display is placed a bit too low in my opinion.

The 6,74-inch OLED display also makes a solid impression so far. The sharpness is 428 pixels pro Inch perfectly adequate, it gets bright enough and colors look nice and strong thanks to the OLED technology. However, I noticed that the viewing angles on the left and right can be expanded with the subtle curves.

Huawei's parade discipline has always been the camera in recent years. On the Mate 50 Pro is based on a triple camera system consisting of a 50 megapixel wide-angle camera, a 13 megapixel ultra wide-angle camera and a 64 megapixel periscope camera, which enables a 3,5x optical zoom. What is special here is the main camera, because Huawei is the first manufacturer to install a 10-step variable aperture. In my opinion, this is absolutely impressive.

But how is the final image quality? Well, the Huawei Mate 50 Pro is the first Huawei flagship in a long time, which was created without cooperation with Leica. Nevertheless, the camera knows how to convince at first glance.

But anyone who is interested in a Huawei smartphone should be aware that many apps do not work. This is also the case with the Huawei Mate 50 Pro. Nevertheless, I am positively surprised, because more things actually work than originally thought.

Whether the first impression is true and how the Huawei Mate 50 Pro ultimately beats in everyday life, you will find out in our detailed test, which will be published in the next few weeks.

We would like to thank Huawei Austria for providing the test device!
