Huawei has had anything but an easy time in recent years. Nevertheless, they do not give up and bring new innovations to the market with each generation. With the Huawei Mate 50 Pro, the manufacturer introduced the first smartphone with a variable aperture.
In the following lines, you will find out what Huawei includes with the new Mate 50 Pro and what your first impression is after a few days of use.
Unboxing
In recent years, it has somehow become a trend that manufacturers continue to reduce the packaging contents and Huawei is also on the Chinese version from last year P50 Pro jumped on the bandwagon. They quickly realized that this was not the right way, which is why they included everything they needed with the European version of the Huawei P50 Pro. The Mate 50 Pro continues this path consistently. In addition to the smartphone, the USB-C cable and the paperwork, the box also contains a transparent case and a 66 watt power supply.
Huawei Mate 50 Pro first impression
After just a few days, it's clear how good the Huawei Mate 50 Pro is. It's a bit more compact than other flagships, such as the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra or iPhone 14 Pro Max. The subtle rounding on the front and back makes it comfortable to hold and easy to use. However, the buttons are placed a bit too high for my taste. In general, my main criticism is the design. The notch is relatively large, the black color almost magically attracts fingerprints, which is why I would recommend the silver color option to everyone, and the fingerprint sensor integrated into the display is, in my opinion, placed a bit too low.

The 6,74-inch OLED display also makes a solid impression so far. The sharpness is 428 pixels pro Inch perfectly adequate, it gets bright enough and colors look nice and strong thanks to the OLED technology. However, I noticed that the viewing angles on the left and right can be expanded with the subtle curves.
Huawei's flagship discipline in recent years has always been the camera. The Mate 50 Pro uses a triple camera system consisting of a 50 megapixel wide-angle camera, 13 megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and a 64 megapixel periscope camera, which enables a 3,5x optical zoom. The main camera is special here, because Huawei is the first manufacturer to install a 10-stage variable aperture. In my opinion, this is absolutely impressive.
But what is the final image quality like? Well, the Huawei Mate 50 Pro is the first Huawei flagship in a long time that was created without a collaboration with Leica. Nevertheless, the camera is impressive at first glance.

But anyone interested in a Huawei smartphone should be aware that many apps don't work. This is also the case with the Huawei Mate 50 Pro. Nevertheless, I am pleasantly surprised because more things actually work than originally thought.
You can find out whether the first impression holds true and how the Huawei Mate 50 Pro ultimately performs in everyday life in our detailed test, which will be published in the next few weeks.
