With the MacBook Pro 16-inch Apple banishes its 15-inch range and fixes a few Proproblems of his predecessors. I tested the 16 inch device and share my first impression with you.

Apple has finally made it - they have launched a new 16-inch MacBook in an almost identical case to the 15-inch model. I've been testing it for some time now. These are my first impressions of the notebook.

What's in the box

Not much has changed here. However, Apple adds a 100 watt-hour power supply, which, by the way, means the maximum power for taking with you on an airplane. Otherwise there is a two meter USB-C to USB-C charging cable and a warranty slip.

Processing and feel

The distribution is top notch as usual. The MacBook has become visibly larger when you put the old 15 inch next to it. The display of the new MacBook is a whole 0,6 inches Pro 16 inches grown - not directly recognizable at first glance. The device is made from the same materials as other MacBooks of its kind.

Sound that brings a wellness ambience with it

Apple has updated its internal speakers and greatly improved them. They have become stronger and warmer. Above all, they sound more bass-heavy, which is good for watching films and series. The microphone has also become so good that you no longer need an external one to cut or create podcasts or YouTube videos.

The escape key is back!

There has been no physical escape key since the introduction of the touch bar; this is now changing again. So the touch bar and ESC key are finally separated again. This makes operation a lot easier, as you no longer have to laboriously go to the ESC key on the bar. Touch ID also has a separate physical button that is slightly matt and is also placed next to the touch bar.

Performance and battery

Between six and eight cores, plus 16 and 64 gigabytes of RAM, as well as from 512 gigabytes to eight terabytes of SSD flash memory can be configured. In addition, a dedicated Radeon Vega 5300 M with six gigabytes of GRAM or a Vega 5500 M with eight gigabytes of G-RAM can be installed. These performances are so violent that really everything happens without much delay. No matter whether video, photo editing or Programming, you are excellently equipped with this. The battery has also increased and offers up to 11 hours of endurance. So far, I have only been able to achieve this value with minimal use. On the other hand, if you render complex 4K or the like, you should plan to have an outlet around you.

New, improved keyboard

If you know the old MacBooks with USB-C, you also know them problematic "Butterfly" keyboard. This was very susceptible to dirt. Apple has finally fixed this and you can now feel a key drop of a good one millimeter. It texts great and faster than before. In addition, typing with this keyboard has become significantly quieter and more efficient with no errors when typing. It seems like Apple has learned from its mistakes and ushered in a new era that everyone can embrace.

The conclusion - finally a MacBook that is more sophisticated

Apple did everything right. Also that youPro“ with 512 gigabytes finally really does justice and the price, which is still high, but has not increased compared to the predecessor. You get a great notebook that I believe has improved everything that went wrong in previous years.
