Huawei Freebuds Pro 2 review: The best in-ear TWS?

With the Huawei Freebuds Pro 2, the Chinese manufacturer Huawei has the successor to the popular Freebuds this year Pro presented. We tested and compared it.

What's in the box

Included with the Freebuds Pro 2 next to the headphones and the case there are smaller and larger eartips. A small USB-A to USB-C cable is also included.

design, processing

The free buds Pro 2 are based on the design of the original Freebuds. We have a big "head" on small sticks, kind of like the Apple AirPods Pro. The headphones are loaded in the corresponding case, which is very well made and closes well. It's not very light, but you can still carry it in your pocket.

comfort

The headphones already have the "standard" eartips fitted, the smaller or larger eartips are included in the scope of delivery. The standard eartips fit me very well, if you run quickly to the train, the headphones don't get in the way.

Battery life

According to Huawei, the headphones last for 4 hours with ANC, and the case should allow a total of 18 hours. I can attest to the battery life. With maximum ANC I even got through 4 hours and 10 minutes, after a week of use the case was empty for me. It is charged in less than 2 hours via wireless charging or via USB-C.

Sound quality and ANC

The sound quality of the Freebuds Pro 2 is fantastic. Very present, strong bass, but without overpowering the mids and highs. Especially voices or synthesizers can be clearly heard. But depending on the ear canal and the fit of the headphones, the sound can vary, I advise you, if you have the chance somewhere, the headphones probe heard.

The ANC is very good and definitely a strength of Huawei. I have dynamic ANC mode off for a weekprobeers and I'm thrilled. Only slight ANC was activated at an empty train station, which saved the battery. As soon as the train pulled in, the ANC got stronger and I heard nothing but the music. The headphones are also recommended for open-plan offices, because conversations behind me on the train were filtered out well.

I was understood well on the phone, in video conferences there were (also because of driversproblemen) sometimes small hissing in the voice.

Huawei Freebuds Pro 2: App and smart features

The free buds Pro 2 are connected to the phone or laptop via Bluetooth, but there is also an app. Huawei "AI Life" takes care of the updates and settings, but requires a Huawei account for all functions.

An equalizer, gesture control and the ANC can then be set in the app. Apropos gesture control. Huawei would rather squeeze the headphones instead of controlling them with a swipe gesture. It doesn't seem very intuitive, but it works.

Prices and availability

The free buds Pro 2 costs 199 euros in RRP, but the headphones are already available in street shops for 180 euros. The colors are silver, blue or white.

Huawei Freebuds Pro 2: Conclusion

The free buds Pro 2 are fantastic in-ear headphones for a steep price. But if you are willing to spend so much money on TWS, you will not regret it. The headphones are currently among the best on the market, especially when it comes to the combination of processing, sound and AI/ANC.
