Huawei P30 Pro first impression: The king on the throne?

The hype surrounding the cameras of the Huawei P30 Pro has not died down to this day. Before our final review of the Huawei P30 Pro, we will take a quick look at the latest Huawei flagship in this short review.
On March 26th of this year that was allowed P30 Pro sees the light of day. This year Huawei is not only installing 3 but even 4 cameras in the housing of the top flagship. With this combination, a zoom of up to 50x is finally possible on a smartphone. In this short test, we get a brief overview of the smartphone.

Delivery
The contents of the Huawei P30 Pro are unchanged except for the 40 watt power adapter and the missing USB Type-C to jack adapter. A USB Type-C cable and headphones with USB-C are included as standard.

The equipment is sufficient - only the adapter from jack to USB-C is now omitted. (Image: © 2019 TechnikNews)
Design and workmanship
As with the P20 Pro, the P30 Pro scores with its excellent workmanship. All buttons are firmly in place in the casing and nothing creaks even slightly. Visually, the device is a feast for the eyes. Some manufacturers could learn a thing or two from this. The glass on the front and back makes the device look like it was made from a single piece. On the left side, you quickly notice that the side is completely free of any physical buttons. Huawei has placed both the power button and the volume up and down buttons on the right.

The only (only more) mono speaker is installed on the bottom, as is the SIM card slot. In these you can insert either 2 nano SIM cards or 1 NM card. But there are also models with only one slot.
The display: not outstanding, but still an innovation
Huawei has once again only given the P30 Pro a full HD+ panel for the display. You can also choose to only use HD+. However, the display does offer one innovation - the familiar earpiece is completely gone. For the first time, voice transmission works via sound and vibration directly "from" the display. It is actually possible to position your ear anywhere on the display to have a conversation. The audio quality is surprisingly good and loud.
In addition, you get a drop notch and do without the 3D face recognition, as you know it with the iPhone X and Xs. Therefore, unfortunately, only 2D face recognition is possible, but this is not so certain. The fingerprint sensor is also located in the display.
The cameras: The Huawei P30 Pro zooms and zooms
Nowadays, we're talking about not just one camera, but four. I don't want to give any details about the cameras' features, but rather share my experience. A detailed test report will follow shortly. It's really worth seeing. Because where the competition is already talking about the maximum at 4x zoom, the P10 Pro is just starting to compete. I'd like to show you the following examples:
- Wide-angle is also possible with the Huawei flagship. (Image: © 2019 TechnikNews)

So if you are looking for a smartphone with a camera, you will get your money's worth, at least as far as the camera is concerned.
Good sound despite mono speakers?
Because Huawei only uses one speaker, the manufacturer does without stereo sound. With the elimination of the earpiece, Huawei no longer installed a second “real” loudspeaker. But this only speaker offers clear and rich sound. But if you prefer to enjoy your favorite music with a headset and external speakers, you won't be bothered by the second speaker.
Huawei P30 Pro: The first conclusion
Huawei puts the entire focus on the cameras and does without security, for example with face recognition. You get more display with the newly introduced drop notch, but you can omit the reliable 3D face recognition. With the elimination of the well-known earpiece and the implementation of voice transmission via the display, the Chinese are bringing a small but impressive innovation.
The cameras offer up to 10x lossless optical zoom, and a 50x digital zoom is even possible using software - but you have to expect a loss of image quality here. However, I wouldn't call the device a "photo miracle" because 2019 is still a relatively new year for smartphones and the P30 Pro doesn't currently have any technically similar competition. Despite everything, you have to take your hat off to the quality of the smartphone.
A detailed review of the Huawei P30 Pro will follow in the coming days here on TechnikNews. This is just a rough overview with our first impressions.
