LG Wing review: unboxing and first impression

LG Wing unboxing

LG introduced the LG Wing a few months ago, which differs greatly from all other smartphones. The special feature here is the main display that can be rotated by 90 degrees and the gimbal mode in the camera app. But all of this has its price of a proud 1.099 euros.

Whether the high price is justified and whether this new design really offers advantages in everyday life, you will find out in a few weeks in my detailed test report here TechnikNews. In this article I first unpack the LG Wing and get a first impression after a few days of use.

LG Wing: unboxing

The white box is very simple. On the front there is only the name of the smartphone, the reference to 5G and a hard case. Both the back and the sides are kept almost completely blank. So from the outside everything is rather unspectacular, but now let's take a closer look at the inside. After you have removed the lid, the first thing you come across is the smartphone, which is still covered in a film for protection. Underneath there is a cover, protective film and a SIM needle for the dual SIM slot. The usual paper stuff was not included with me, but I strongly assume that it will be included with the retail version. Furthermore, there is a 25 watt power supply with which the LG Wing can be charged quickly. The corresponding USB-C cable should of course not be missing and LG even includes an adapter from USB-C to jack.

First impression of the LG Wing

The LG Wing made a good first impression on me after a few days of use. One of the main reasons for this is the beautiful design. The display bezels are pleasantly thin and we have a clean front with no disruptive cut-outs for the front camera. It sits in the housing and can be extended if necessary. I also find the back, which is made of glass and unfortunately very prone to fingerprints, very chic.

The highlight, however, is clearly the rotatable display. It feels great, works proflawless and is just extremely impressive. The play instinct is enormous and you just have to give it upprohave beer. In addition, there are also some useful usage scenarios in everyday life, such as using two apps at the same time. This works great and can often be very useful. But all of this also comes with some disadvantages. The smartphone is not protected against the ingress of water and dust according to IP-68, it is extremely heavy and relatively thick. I know it's hard to avoid with this concept, but it's still a shame.

Otherwise, the display and the camera make a very good first impression. The OLED panel is very bright, has a sufficiently sharp resolution and impresses with realistic colors. However, I miss a smooth refresh rate of 90 or even 120 Hertz. For the price you just have to expect that. Accordingly, the performance also suffers somewhat. The wing just doesn't feel quite as fluid and fast, which of course also applies to the Proprocessor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G.

I will take a closer look at the smartphone in the next few days, compare it with other smartphones and then my detailed review will follow in a few weeks TechnikNews.
