The new Google Fit: New functions in a fresh look
Yesterday, Google released a new version of Google Fit for Android. The new app offers numerous new functions in a completely new look. We have the details of the update.
There have been no major updates to Google Fit in months. The app, which was already looking out of date, finally got a big update on Tuesday. According to rumors, a Google Coach, an app that should help with training, could also appear in the coming months. Competitors here are Fitbit with “Fitstar” and apps from Runtastic.
Activity duration & cardio points
First, the menu has been completely revised. Now there are the tabs "Start", "Training overview" and "Profile". On the home page you will find around that Profilbild immediately two lines. One represents the activity duration of the current day. These activity points (blue line) are reached through movement. Be it walking, running or cycling. By default, a goal of 100 minutes is set here pro Day fixed - I doubt whether that can realistically be achieved on a working day during the week.
Then there are the cardiopoints in the green line. This is obtained through more intensive activities such as training or other strenuous activities. If the pulse is outside the normal “comfort zone”, these points can be reached. That is why these are also referred to in English as "heart points" in the app. "For every minute of moderately intense activity, you get a cardio point, for example when you increase the pace while walking," says im Google blog entry.
Update for Android and iOS
In addition to the revised Google Fit website you want to bring the update to Android and iOS in the coming weeks. Smartwatches with wearOS will also receive the update soon. On smartwatches, the activity bars look pretty similar to the Apple Watch. A pretty good makeover, though - about time.
