Apple Watch Series 5 review: first impression and unboxing
With the Apple Watch Series 5, Apple brings a new and improved smartwatch to the portfolio. I got a first impression and looked at the watch for you.
This year's successor to the Apple Watch Series 4 is of course the Apple Watch Series 5. I've tested the "normal" one with aluminum for you since day one.

Scope of delivery and processing
This year Apple is offering the Apple Watch Series 5 with a freely selectable bracelet. That means: Apple includes an additional box with the bracelet of your choice. You can now own the watch and the bracelets in the Apple Store configure.
Otherwise, Apple offers the usual 5 watt power adapter, the well-known charging pad and paperwork such as the operating instructions and warranty slip.
As in previous years, the workmanship is perfect. The transitions of the edges on the edges are still seamless and of high quality.
The display: For the first time with always-on function
The display of the Apple Watch Series 5 has not changed - except for one small thing. Now Apple is installing a new technology called "LTPO OLED". In regular use, the watch updates every second at 60 Hz. But thanks to the new LTPO panel, the clock can reduce the second down to 1 Hz and thus offer an always-on function. However, according to Apple, this should not have a negative impact on the battery life of the watch.
My experiences in everyday life
I wore this watch every day and really used it from morning to night. Sometimes with always-on and sometimes without in normal operation.
The pocket calculator app of the Apple Watch Series 5 proved to be very practical for me. Instead of pulling out the iPhone, I just did a quick calculation with the watch in the supermarket - super practical.
In addition, the navigation maps are now graphically displayed under watchOS 6 so that the iPhone is no longer required. She was happy to help me with a short navigation through a strange city center. For example, if I went wrong ignorantly, the smartwatch gave me gentle haptic feedback.
Battery life for the whole day?
Apple promises around 5 hours of battery life with normal use of the Apple Watch Series 18, even with the always-on display activated. I have tested the watch with and without Always On and can say that if you use the Always-On function, it will be over after a day in the evening. If, on the other hand, you have the function off, you can get a good 1-2 days depending on use.
During my use, I used everyday apps like Spotify, Telephony, etc.
The bottom line: should you switch from Series 4?
If you come from the Series 4, you certainly don't need to switch to a Series 5. However, if you are coming from a Series 3 or earlier, I can currently recommend the Series 5. The battery is decent and lasts for one to a maximum of two days. In addition, Apple has left its prices as in the previous year and not increased them. You can buy the Apple Watch Series 5 in the Apple Store.
