Apple postpones new Siri features to iOS 26.5 and iOS 27.

Apple's ambitious plan to fundamentally revamp Siri through generative AI has suffered another major setback. Internal stability and accuracy issues are forcing the company to postpone the features planned for March in iOS 26.4 to later versions or even next year.
Technical hurdles in the new architecture
According to one Report by Mark Gurman Apple is currently struggling significantly with its new Siri architecture, internally codenamed "Linwood." In current testing phases, the system is proving unreliable, processing requests too slowly or prematurely terminating speech recognition when users speak too quickly. proThe problematic aspect is that the AI assistant often reverts to ChatGPT in test builds, even though Apple's own Foundation Models should be handling the task. This instability means that Apple cannot meet the originally targeted release date of March 2026 for the most important new features.
Staggered release instead of a large wave of updates
Instead of releasing all features bundled together in iOS 26.4, Apple is now planning a phased rollout. Siri's ability to access personal data such as messages or calendar entries is not expected to appear until iOS 26.5 in May 2026 – and even then, likely only as a kind of "preview" version with corresponding warnings for users. The complex voice control of apps, known as App Intents, also does not yet function reliably enough in the current development environment for a mass market launch this spring.
Project Campo and the future with Google Gemini
The complete overhaul of Siri into a true chatbot, codenamed "Campo," is now definitively taking center stage in iOS 27. This version is expected to rely heavily on Google Gemini and Apple's new private cloud compute servers to handle complex requests. While software chief Craig Federighi has internally emphasized the importance of data privacy, these very stringent requirements appear to be further delaying the development of access to private user data. For users, this means that the update, expected in June 2024, will be delayed.proThe full experience will probably only be available in autumn 2026.
